Virtual Crime Prevention Merit Badge

What: Preventing crime, which can be as simple as reducing the opportunities for crime to occur, is far less costly than apprehending and bringing legal action against those who break the law and it helps save people from the anguish of being victims.

Meet your CounselorsOfficer Alfred A. Melucci Jr. is a 19 year veteran of the Warwick Police Department. Assignments have included 12 years in the patrol division, 5 years in the community police unit, 2 years as a school resource officer and 5 years as post leader of the Warwick police explorer program, post 327.

Officer Russell Brown has been a Warwick officer for 13 years. He has been a 4 year member of both Warwick Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation team and Mental Health team and has helped serve as an advisor for the Explorers program for 6 years. Currently, he is school resource officer at Pilgrim High School.

WHO: Open to all Scouts BSA members

HOW:  The Crime Prevention Merit Badge will be taught in a virtual classroom. The class has a capacity of 15 Scouts. Small classroom size provides all students with the opportunity to share and interact with the counselors and other Scouts. Scouts should be prepared to be challenged and to join the conversation! Participants who do not engage with the class may not receive credit for the badge. Scouts must be prompt for all badge sessions. Late participants may not receive credit for all requirements.

Before beginning work on any merit badge, scouts are to have a discussion with their unit leader regarding the specific badge and counselor.

WHEN: This class will be held virtually over two sessions:

June 9, 2020 3:30PM-5:00PM

June 16, 2020 3:30PM-5:00PM

Scouts must attend both sessions to complete the offered requirements.

After registering, Scouts will receive a link and login information via email the day class is scheduled. Scouts will also receive instructor details that can be used to connect to the counselor on Scoutbook. This assures that completed requirements are easily recorded.

PREREQUISITES:  Please download a copy of the Crime Prevention Merit Badge workbook.
