Scouting for Food
In Southeastern New England, thousands of people go hungry at least a few days a month. And so, each year, the Narragansett Council continues its Scouting for Food: Good Turn drive. For over 30 consecutive years, Scouters have come together to help food banks feed the hungry in our communities. Through 2018, more than 9.5 million pounds of food have been collected through your good turn efforts.
We are ask every Pack, Troop, Team and Crew to take part in the Scouting for Food: Good Turn. Scouts will collect bags of food and transport them to their local collection center. At the collection center, the food will be sorted, labeled and boxed. Boxes will be collected from each collection center by the Rhode Island National Guard, the Food Bank, and others to be transported to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank or local food bank. The food banks will then distribute the food collected to the over 250 member agencies that run food pantries throughout Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts, and Southeastern Connecticut.
By participating in this Scouting for Food Good Turn, together, we in the Narragansett Council can show our communities and our Scouts that we haven’t forgotten the principals that have made the Boy Scouts of America strong.
