Peter W. Ham is the husband of 36 years to his wife, Carol, and the father to his two Eagle Scout sons, Jeremy and Ethan. Peter has devoted more than three decades to Scouting serving as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and Chartered Organizational Representative for Pack 13 and Troop 17 in Mansfield, as well as Executive Board Member and Vice President of Safe Scouting for the Narragansett Council. His leadership and dedication have earned him numerous Scouting honors, including the Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit, Daniel Carter Beard Award, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, God and Country Award and the Distinguished Service to Safey Award.
Professionally, Peter is a licensed mental health counselor and has provided direct clinical and educational services to individuals, families, healthcare systems and businesses for over 30 years. He has coordinated the delivery of mental health services to over 200 extended care facilities in the New England area. Peter has been an active participant with the Alzheimer’s Association for many years including being Vice President for Programs and Services in Massachusetts and New Hampshire who oversaw all the Clinical, Education, Professional Services Departments as well as the Medical & Advisory Council while he was there. He was the lead facilitator of an early-stage Alzheimer’s support group for individuals recently diagnosed and their care partners for over 10 years. He has authored several articles for the Massachusetts Medical Society. Peter was honored by The Alzheimer’s Association as the “2009 Unsung Hero.” Currently, Peter is in private practice at Associates in Behavioral Health, LLC for the last 11 years. His commitment to service extends to roles in his church as Moderator, a Foundation Board Member of the Sturdy Memorial Hospital, and District Deputy Grand Master for the Massachusetts Freemasons.
Among his most memorable Scouting experiences are knighting new Cub Scouts with his grandfather’s ceremonial sword and leading winter snowshoeing trips atop Mr. Cardigan, where Scouts learned resilience in subzero conditions. Peter believes Scouting is one of the most powerful forces for inspiring cooperation and building a better world-a belief that drives his tireless efforts and makes him a truly deserving honoree this evening.
