American Labor Merit Badge
WHO - This event is open to Scouts BSA members.
WHAT - Earn your American Labor merit badge at the Museum of Work & Culture. Tour the museum and learn about the types of work done in the textile mills in the Blackstone Valley, the workers who made that industry possible and the steps they took to better their experience. We will learn about the largest federation of unions in the US, the AFL-CIO from the President of the Rhode Island chapter, Patrick Crowley. Scouts will participate in a labor union collective bargaining simulation activity and delve into the various terms, models and issues prevalent in labor unions in the past as well as today. We will watch a short film on the history of the Independent Textile Union in Rhode Island and explore various employment opportunities in the labor field.
SCOUTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING A BLUE CARD SIGNED BY THEIR SCOUTMASTER TO THE MERIT BADGE.

Check-in located at the main entrance of the museum.
Parking available in the museum parking lot.

Please come dressed in your Class-A (full uniform).
Adults are welcome to register if they wish to stay and tour the museum.
